couple of years ago i would have gave that place a 4 star, we live in san fran it used to be a must stop for us (after i got over the fact that i had to wipe the forks plates before using them which would explain the 1 star deduction to 4 but food was good)..However the last few times we were there we got treated like crap. the first time i said itsok maybe the chef kareem is having a bad day i'll give it one more shot.. the second time we went the place was closed still after half an hour from supposibly open time.. we waited out there for 5 min when we realized oh he's inside.. we knock on the door to ask him if he's open, he gave us attitude but he opened, then  he messed up our food .. the foul tasted like he just opened a can of foul LOTS LOTS of cummin nothing else, food didn't taste the same( i used to love the foul there) , he didn't give us the garlic sauce as usual the whole experience was just plain bad and oh the dishes were filthy as usual..if he didn't want our business, he should have said no i'm still not ready or still closed but to do that was just really really bad.. would NEVER go back there again he's just not worth it..he was a pure jerk!

We went here for dinner last night and the food was quite nice. We had the kufta and the shish ka bob for dinner. Both were tasty, although my bf and i both liked the kufta better. Dinner came with 2 pickles (which i found unusual for a mediterrenean joint), grilled onion, tomatoes, rice and a big dallop of thick, tasty hummus. We also had the lentil soup, although i wished it could have been better. Not bad though. Dinner for two came down to $27 bucks with huge portions as well. It's worth coming back.

Don't be fooled by the ghettoness of this place. The food is pretty friggin' good. It's a family run place so the food tastes homemade. The service is great. I was out in Anaheim for a site inspection and found this place. I had the chicken plate and was pleasantly surprised. Really good moist chicken...delicious hummus and soft pita...fluffy rice. The portions are huge too...I could not finish it. I'm not sure if I'll ever be in this area again nor am I sure that I can even find this place again...but if I am in Anaheim...I would stop by and eat at one of the best Mediterranean food restaurants in SoCal.

Kareem's is one of the best places to eat in Orange County. This restaurant serves the tastiest Middle-Eastern food around, and it's affordable. This is one of those times that you don't want to "judge a book by its cover". The place is in a small strip mall, not too far from a hookah joint. It has a couple of tables outside, perfect for a beautiful, sunny day, or you can take one of the tables in side. I think the max in seating is 20. When you walk in, head right to the order window. There you will meet Mike, owner and chef. He makes everything fresh to order, which is one of the reasons why this place is so amazing.  Look over the menu, tell Mike what you want, then head over to your table and wait. And yes, sometimes it is a wait, but definitely worth it. While your waiting, you can read any one of the Arabic newspapers located by the counter.I would recommend ordering the fallafel sandwich, hummus with pine nuts and steak, chicken kabob, cucumber yogurt salad, and don't forget the mint tea.Enjoy :)

The falafel served here is really good and fresh. No wonder they are voted best in OC. I ordered the falafel plate and you get 5-6 falafel, pita breads, hummus(not sure if I spell this one correctly), and veggies. Most of the time I brought some left overs because it's big. The one I ordered is ~$10.

Upon entering Kareem's Restaurant, we were beckoned to approach the counter window and peruse the menu.  Once we had ordered, we were asked to have a seat where we served quickly.  It was a delightful meal that featured great service, fantastic food, and very generous portions. We went to Kareem's Restaurant for lunch, and we really liked it a lot.  It was really refreshing to visit a restaurant that was so clearly all about the food.  The restaurant was very small, but very clean, and the staff was incredibly friendly.  We ordered the Kufta and the Shish Ka Bob.  They were both fantastic, but we agreed that the flavorful Kufta was the better dish.  Ordering the two meals, which each came with a sizable helping of rice, grilled vegetables, a large helping of fantastic hummus and warm flat bread, as well as a bowl of lentil soup, to share, presented a strong sense that our eyes had been bigger than our stomachs, but the kind owners were happy to give us some containers to take our delectable, yet overly plentiful, feast home for later.  When I return for lunch in the future, I will plan on ordering a bit more modestly or with a heartier appetite.  Kareem's Restaurant may be a modest setting, but once you taste their fantastic, fresh and flavorful, feast-like fare, you'll find that the plain decor of this locale fades away with each delectable bite.

What a great little find.  We went to this shopping center looking to eat at Casa Gamino, but apparently they had a kitchen fire so they are closed for a while.  We were starved so we looked around and found this place.  Nazarene, who works out front was the friendliest restaurant person I've met in a long time.  She helped us figure out the menu and everything was great.  She was always at our table when we had a question, and she told us how to make the salad, which I will try at home some time. The Combination Grill plate is  great option for 2 people.  It has Chcken, Kufta and Shish Kabob which were all just great.  The kufta is especially good.  We also ordered the Fatoush salad, which was a refreshing treat if you like things on the sour side.  We ordered the Kufta Kabob plate to take home to our daughter for dinner, but to be honest we had plenty of food left over from the Combo Grill.  I am looking forward to leftovers for dinner tonight!  I will be back!

Thanks to Caroline B. for recommending this place.  It didn't look like much at first, just a small, cheap restaurant, and it was completely empty at lunch time, but we braved it, and boy was it is delicious!   I got the falafel and hummus plate.  Best hummus around, easily.  I especially loved it because it's garlic hummus with fresh garlic.  You can still taste it in your mouth forever afterwards.  Mmm.  And the falafels are sooo yummy (and surprisingly green on the inside!) not too salty, perfectly crunchy.  Mmm mmm.  It's one of those places where you don't mind burping afterwards because it only reminds you of how good the meal was.

Came across this review by accident.  The pictures taken by fellow were so great that just looking at them instantly sold me!  It took us a while to come here because of work and stuff but we finally made it there last Friday.Like fellow yelpers said, it's a-hole-in-a-wall.  It's not fancy at all but decent. Need to order over the counter then food will be brought out to you.  Not very big place.  But looks like there's a big party room in the back.  After 12, the crowd tends to pick so go there early or after peak hours if you don't like to wait.I had the kupta kabob.  Very good, just a little salty but with rice and bread/hummus,  it was tasty.  A lot of food. I was seriously full and couldn't keep my eyes opened in the afternoon. Some of my friends ordered saute chicken, saute beef and chicken kabob. I did like saute chicken over beef.  Maybe because my kupta kabob was a little salty it made saute beef seemed blend.  Service is decent.  Not too slow nor fast.  Very friendly staff. The lady that served us came to check on us and see if everything was OK.

Definitely one of the better falafel joints. The falafel balls are moist and flavorful inside, and crunchy but not too hard on the outside. The falafel sandwich is currently $4+tax, and comes in a pita with tahini, lettuce, tomato and cucumber chunks. Pretty satisfying. The kefta kabob is also moist and flavorful, though I would have liked it to have a little more salt. Their breakfast menu looks interesting, with various omelettes, scambles and bean dishes.

A few miles west of Disneyland, Kareem's serves awe-inspiring falafel and other Middle Eastern specialties in a tiny, bare-bones strip mall location. The location is easy to miss. Look for the predominantly Middle Eastern shopping center on the southeast corner of Ball and Brookhurst. Kareem's is tucked into the center's mid-section. For families, this place is fine. There are high chairs and the atmosphere is ultra-casual. There's nothing fancy about the decor here. There are just a few tables and a counter. Step up to the counter without hesitation, though, and you'll usually get a friendly greeting. Take a look at one of the yellow menus or ask for guidance about which dishes are best for you. It's hard to go wrong.Since Kareem's has won the OC Weekly's "best falafel" award, that dish is the best place to start. The smallest and cheapest option is a falafel sandwich. It's a classic with delicious falafel balls in a pita with lettuce, tomato, pickle slices, and sauce. Ask for it spicy, and an added kick of hot sauce is applied. Customers looking for more than just a sandwich can choose from nearly a dozen falafel platters, which pair the garbanzo spheres with foul (a fava bean dish), hummus, and other specialties. All the add-ons are good, but the most important part of the meal, the actual falafel, is excellent. The exterior is crunchy, but not brittle. The interior is moist and assertively flavored with parsley, cumin, pepper, and other key flavors. For the falafel abstainer, there are numerous other entrees, many with halal meat. Honestly, I've never ventured into that part of the menu, but I would expect it all to be prepared with the same quality. The only disappointing aspect of Kareem's is the limited beverage selection. There are a few canned sodas, including a tangy, unsweetened yogurt beverage, but some fruit juices would help the cause.

Places like Kareem's are the reason Southern California is still such a cool place to live. Lou Dobbs, you are an A-Hole, cultural diversity is the spice of life. Please stay on the East Coast. This place is about a mile from our Buddhist church, so after first chilling with some chanting and incense on a Sunday morning,  we wander over to Kareem's for chicken kabob, slices of warm bread, hummus and delectable basmati rice. It's kind of a salt of the earth place, so don't expect to be wowed by anything but the food and good service. The decor is run of the mill. The family that runs this place seemed very nice, although we did run into some slight resistance when, knowing we wouldn't be able to finish all of our food, we requested to dine in but have our orders placed in to-go containers. That's not so weird, is it? So the coolest part of the day ended up being having Kareem's for lunch AND dinner. Awesome, possum.

Hmm..still think Wholesome Choice has better food, but then again, Wholesome Choice is mainly Persian and for $14, you get dejaj mashui (grilled chicken) with hummus and grilled whole tomato. The owners have been here for 10+ years, so it has to count for something...a definite mom and pop shop.

Hubby found this place on yelp and I read through the various reviews and decided it was worth a try. While trying to get there, we drove right past it but I remembered someone mentioning it was near Casa Gamino so we turned around. It is located in the same plaza but it's hard to see the sign when you're driving south on Brookhurst. It was relatively empty when we arrived. The lady was very nice. She asked us to sit down and she'll bring us menus. The first thing she asked us when she came over was whether it's our first time there. I said yes. Then she asked us if we were familiar with the cuisine and I said yes again. We quickly decided much to her surprise. I got the combo platter ($16.99) for me and the young man to share. Hubby at first wanted the falafel sandwich but both the lady and I convinced him otherwise. He ended up getting the falafel plate with hummus and baba ghanoush ($8.69). Hubby also got a cup of the tea ($2/50 cent refills) which arrives with some mint leaves and sugar for you to add as you please.Since the meats were cooked to order it took some time for it to reach our table, but we weren't in a hurry. I thought that the shish kabob (beef) and the chicken were flavorful, although the beef could've been cooked a tad more. The kufta was absolutely amazing. The meat was not dense, but moist and whatever spices they used to flavor the kufta with was just delicious. I thought it was the best kufta I've had ever. The combo plate has these 3 meats sitting on top of fluffy basmati rice, half a grilled tomato and slices of grilled onions plus hummus.Hubby's plate had 4 falafels plus hummus and baba ghanoush. The falafels were some of the best I've had. I love the ones that are green inside. For some reason the ones which are light brown in color just doesn't quite have the same flavor. These falafels were fluffy and moist. Baba ghanoush has a really good amount of garlic to it which made it perfect for my palate. On the other hand, the hummus lacked the punch in comparison. I thought the hummus was a little on the dry side and needed more garlic, tahini and olive oil. Baba ghanoush is the way to go!The owners are husband and wife and both were very accommodating and helpful. They are from Nazareth and are the original owners of Kareem's which has been at the same location for 12 years. We'll definitely be back for the kuftas and the baba ghanhoush.

Great Flavor on the Kefta Kabobs. Me and my guy shared the Kefta plate, which was 2 sizable Kabobs, a nice amount of rice, some very yummy and creamy hummous (tasted like homemade, but not sure about that). There was a lovely grilled tomato atop the nice pile of basmati, and for the life of me I can't remember what else was on the plate, but the whole lot of it was served with a stack of heated pita bread in a basket. They make a point on the menu of saying the plate is served with pickles, and I thought they were just regular dills until I bit into them, and they were so sour! Good though, not my usual thing, but tasty. Have to go back soon since I've been craving it big time!Note: sodas are canned, and also they don't serve glasses of water, but they do offer bottled.. decor is plain and pretty much a non-issue, people seem very nice...

Been going for years and it is a place that i try to find reasons to go just so i can have my arabic food fix. It came recommended by my oldest sister's dry-cleaner who is Israeli. Its by no means close to any freeway so you'll be driving through the colorful and diverse neighborhoods of that corner of Anaheim. The owners, Mike and his wife, know my  family by face and knows what we want when they see us-and we're always met with a smile. Thats what I like, the classic mom and pop places that actually remember  their customers and knows what they like. Favorite's of ours are:-Hummus Chicken Pinenuts. Came highly recommended. Its creamy hummus with grilled chicken and toasted pinenuts and drizzled with olive oil. Im ignorant so this seemed a little exotic at first but it just works so damn well together. It comes with fresh onions, tomatoes, jalapenos and pickled okra and a bag of pita bread.-falafel sandwich. Its good n cheap and alway fresh. The veggies inside arent wilted like how some other sandwiches ive had. -the lentil soup. I really like this, too. Its like a creamy chowder with lentils instead of potatoes.-The kufta. Its always moist and tasty.    -The babaghanoush. Creamy, garlicy, goodness.I always see other families drinking tea, but because i like being different, I always get the vimto whenever Im in an establishment that serves it. Ive noticed that over the years the portions have got a tad smaller and the prices got slightly higher, but that is the ONLY small criticism I have. This isnt a FAST food place so if you take your food to-go, which I often do,  prepare to wait a good 10-15 minutes. and when they're really busy, 15-25. This isnt a problem, Kareem's seems like one of those restaurants where you're suppose to sit and socialize. if you're antisocial, theres a smoke shop next door specializing in hookah but has other things for all your smoking needs, like cigars. I sometimes find myself in there if im needing to wait.I love Kareems, I love the food, the people and dont ever want it to change! i like how they NEVER hate on people who arent israeli. They welcome all people with warmth, not hostility like other ethnic restaurants (of any ethnicity)  that can make you feel awkward for trying something new. i love relatively unassuming places that arent overrun with crowds of "foodies" looking for their next find,  but if more business will help them,  get the hell over there! The owner also recommended this really good bakery on the opposite corner of ball and brookhurst (like in the plaza with starbucks, the only evil LL Hawaiian, some generic fishchip shop...) where they have fantastic pastries, especially their baklava. I recommend going there afterwords.

This place has like the best hummus ever. The owner is Kareem his wife they're sooo nice! They know my face, as the non-middle eastern person. The best thing to order is the hummus chicken pine nuts and the falafel plate. It's sooo ridiculously good! Kareem always hooks me up with extra pita bread. The only thing wrong with this place is that you can't call in. You have to wait 15+ minutes for the food.

I'm on a middle eastern food kick and am running amok in Little Gaza. Kareem's definitely has good falafels. I'm not going to so as far as saying that they have the best falafels but they are very good.  I also had their kufta which was nicely seasoned and charred.  Very tasty with basmati. Love their hummus!

* A nice hole-in-the-wall in Little Gaza *If I lived in Southern California I can tell there would be a lot of culinary exploring in this neighbourhood.  I wanted to try all of the different restaurants, bakeries and cafes. This is the one I did get to try.  Really friendly service and simple wholesome kebabs with all the trimmings.  We ordered a nice variety that included kufta kabob, shish kabob, chicken kabob, kibbeh, rice, hummus, and salad.  Quite the feast!  Everything was well prepared, nicely seasoned, and reasonably priced.  One or two of the kabobs were slightly overcooked for my taste, but not terribly so.  Overall a very solid hole-in-the-wall in the heart of Little Gaza!

Thank you, Yelper, Chris D. for introducing me to Kareem's Restaurant!  Chris D. advised me to try Kareem's.  I love Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food. I am always looking to explore new middle east restaurants that come recommended by fellow yelpers. Chris D. mentioned Kareem was good and "good" indeed is Kareem. O.C. Weekly even named Kareem as the best restaurant for falafels. Knowing that recommendation, I ordered the falafels which were served mezze style with hummus, pickled vegetables, tomatoes and pita. The falafels at Kareem are great. The falafel balls had a crispy outer shell and were fluffy, meaty inside. The flavors in the falafel were really wonderful. Damn, O.C. weekly got it right on highlighting Kareem's falafels. The falafel's are fantastic. I recommend you try them. My husband and I had lunch here. The hubby ordered the beef kabobs with hummus, basmati rice and roasted tomatoes. I sampled my husband's meal. I tried the beef kabobs which had this amazing charbroiled taste. The beef was tender and juicy. The basmati rice and hummus was wonderful. I really liked Kareem's hummus. I was surprised by how good the hummus was. I am super picky when it comes to hummus. I need blended tahini, good puree or mash up of chick peas, and the right amount of olive oil and lime juice. Kareem's hummus is right on par with all the important ingredients. Really good hummus. Kareem is as Marc D. wrote, "A nice hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Little Gaza." This restaurant is the best hole-in-the-wall. Kareem is not about the atmosphere... it's about the food. So, if your looking for niceties like decor, music and wait staff... this might not be the place for you. The decor is a bit third world inside. The tables are shabby and the walls have tacky faded lithograph, circa 1980. Pictures that have faded from the fluorescent lighting. Ambiance is missing but the food is DAMN good. And the owner is a sweetheart who will serve you with much care, as he makes his good food.

Okay, those four stars are only for the falafel, since I'm vegan and haven't tried any other dishes.I have to say though, the hummus is mediocre. I've been to Kareem's more times than I can count, because seriously their falafel = GODLY!but the last time I ordered hummus it was SO SALTY! I couldn't even swallow it, I really wanted to say something but didn't...I hope they check their hummus now or else nobody is going to order it any longer. Other than that it's really great.

And the owner is a sweetheart who will serve you with much care, as he makes his good food.* A nice hole-in-the-wall in Little Gaza *If I lived in Southern California I can tell there would be a lot of culinary exploring in this neighbourhood. Overall a very solid hole-in-the-wall in the heart of Little Gaza!I'm on a middle eastern food kick and am running amok in Little Gaza. Kareem's definitely has good falafels. I'm not going to so as far as saying that they have the best falafels but they are very good.  I also had their kufta which was nicely seasoned and charred.  Very tasty with basmati. Love their hummus!
