Super King Market Reviews

FOODIE ALERT!!!!!! You need to shop at this market. They are mainly a large Middle-Eastern Grocery store, but they do have American and some Latino and Asian products too. The fruits and vegetables in this place are incredibly cheap, and best of all, they are of good quality. I don't know how they keep their prices so low. The meat and seafood section are also full of good deals, and they have a nice selection of marinated kabob meats. While you are there, pass by the their little section for nuts. They have a large variety of nuts for any of your recipes. I highly suggest the Anaheim Nuts mix for as a snack for your next party. This store also has an aisle full of hookahs to purchase, if you are interested in that, and some Middle-Eastern cooking utensils.

this is a good grocery store...but watch your back cuz you are in the hood...this is a shady area to say the least. My dad referred me to it, he drives here from wetmintah just to buy produce, and that is all that I would use it for as well. Their prices for fruit and veggies are amazing and unbeatable. Prices like 3lbs of tomatoes for like 70 cents and 3 lbs of red delicious apples for 1 dollar are abundant. The place is also very dirty, has random smelly spots, is very crowded with rude foreigners who will stare at you for no reason at all, and has mediocre prices on just about everything other than produce.

The ads have been coming for a few months, but I ignored them figuring it wasn't for me. I decided they might just have some good produce for cheap so I ventured to the store. The store front and parking lot freaked the So OC part of me, but the urban, adventure, foodie part of me was excited. I grabbed a small hand held basket once I noticed how packed the produce section was. I am not a patient person, so trying to maneuver a shopping cart in the madness would have probably set me off into some diabolical rant. Off I went, into the crowd. I felt awkward at first realizing I was the only pale blonde in what seemed like the entire market, but I soon found myself wandering around taking in all of the foreign foods. I found artichokes for $.69 a piece, bananas for $.69 a lb, italian beans, tomatoes, cherries, etc... all for exceptionally great prices. There were a few produce items I wouldn't chance, like the bagged lettuce, it looked pretty haggard. I wandered past the smelly meat section, reminded me of foreign markets who don't seek to appease the American sense of smell. I saw the entire olive section ranging from Greek to Middle Eastern choices. Each aisle had American foods plus a full range of Mexican, Asian and Middle Eastern foods. The best part, the mixed nut bar area. LOVE IT. I ordered up some fresh pepitas. mmm. How can I not love a market with hookahs and a selection that embraces our range of cultures? Everyone was extra friendly and helpful. I found myself delightfully lost in another place I never knew existed. Super King rules. (yes I intended that)

Ok. Weekday shopping is much better than weekend. Parking was still a bitch, and there were some obnoxious parkers, but the deals are great. I did manage to find the spices this time (they've moved them by the produce and Fred at Hi-Tech told me where to find them). They have seafood now and it is pretty well priced. The expanded deli section carries lunchmeats and cheeses and that was really cool. This place has taken a dive imho. I used to shop here all the time until I found Freshia, but today…

There is a good selection of produce here but the customers are less than desirable. This store is always crowded. I was going to buy some trail mix nuts they have out for you to scoop. There was a sign to inform people to not touch it with their hands. It's just not sanitary. But, almost every other person who walked by was touching it and eating it. They didn't use the metal scoops. I understand they were sampling it, but why stick your unwashed hands in somebody's food. That's rude and disgusting! If you go there, look in the weekly ad. There are usually at least 1 or 2 good deals.

This market Rocks!Everything is SO FREAKIN CHEAP!I only shop here for fruits and veggies and times if i want some halal chicken. The last time i bought chicken from this one asian market, it smelled like bleach/chemicals ack!Their produces are Fresh because of high traffic of people shopping here that there is a fast turnaround. Try to park far because the patrons here does not seem to care if your car gets hit by a cart or not. I've been here in the morning it opened to afternoon and even night and its alwayss packed and busy.Like other people wrote, i just park my cart somewhere and just gather the stuff i need because there is no way that i can merge my cart through the isles.I've been to the one on Altadena, that one is so clean and twice the size of the Anahiem one. The prices are almost same for every location but it doesn't feel like im getting a bargain unless i'm shopping at the small, packed, ghetto anaheim location!I go here atleast once a week now. my mom is so surprised at how cheap thigns are too! Definitely go if you are in the area!

Cheapest place ever., but somehow everything is still fresh. My parents buy everything from here.Though, it gets crazy here sometimes. The middle eastern familes get too excited and there are traffic jams and accidents (with carts of course!)so beware!

Super cheap EVERYTHING including $2/lb for FETA CHEESE!!!! Fresh too. Not even remotely stinky but full of flavour and an amazing balance of salt.Fabulous tomatoes and the freshest produce around. I cannot rave about this place enough.Produce, breads, pastries, meats, cheeses, canned anything at all, almonds, candies, very authentic everything else.Thumbs way up from my stomach and especially from my wallet.SHUKRAN SUPER KING!!!!

This place rocks! We have been shopping here for many years, way back when they were in a little stirp mall off of brookhust, and they have always had fantastic prices on produce, meats, cheeses, olives, and can't forget the olive oil, I don't think you'll find it cheaper elsewhere.Even though they are so inexpensice, they don't sacrifice quality. Everything is fresh! The place is pretty much always packed. We like to go late on Sunday's(they are changing thier hours starting tomorrow and will be open until 9pm now on sundays, yea!) when the crowd isn't too bad. As other people have mentioned, the best way to shop the produce and deli is to find a good spot to park your cart so you don't have to navigate through the masses. It makes shopping there so much easier.Parking at this location kinda sucks, as other people have said, park far away and walk. Get some excersise! :)I was glad to see they are a Yelp! sponser as well! You go Super King!!!

This place sure is nifty! Various middle eastern carbs (like flat breads and pita and such) for much cheaper than at a chain market. Their produce section has a lot of cheap bargain finds...which is why it's the most congested area of the market. I love middle eastern food and I love produce in general so I try to come here when I'm in the area (....and feel like dealing with an overwhelming crowd of people!) They not only have middle eastern food staples but regular run of the mill super market items as well. Only reason for it not being five stares is because it's so darn crowded! And every time I've been there, all the checkouts are open and all have long lines that leak into the aisles! So it's kind of a challenge maneuvering around the store...which is why I opt for a basket instead of a cart (and usually all the carts are gone... and disappear as the staff replenishes them!) But... yay for super king!

I love Super King market for produce and beef! You walk in and it's usually a mad house, but it's worth it.. trust me.The produce is so fresh and delicious .. and did I mention cheap? I don't know how they do it. I still marvel when I look down at my receipt and see that I got a 5 pack of garlic for 16 cents when I see it for 50 cents a head at mainstream supermarkets... same thing for lemons .. 10 cents each! It's like shopping in 1980 or something. However, the most important thing for me is that the produce is delicious. I made a kickin fruit salad with their fruit for way less than I would have if I had shopped at another store. Then you go over to the meat section and see tons of ruby red meat that is not only halal (Muslim kosher), but says "natural" as well. I'm down with that. Their expert butchers will trim the fat, divide it into bags, and help you out. I don't consume much beef, but I try to get theirs for when I do.In terms of the dairy section, I was able to find farmer's cheese here, which is hard to find. My mom and I used it to make homemade cheese blintzes... yummy! Overall, it's kind of crazy inside, especially during Ramadan, but it's a cornucopia of culture and food for all. I do recommend it highly to those of you who cook and are sick of overpaying for crappy produce from mainstream supermarkets. I live in the Long Beach, but try to make it to Super King twice a month to stock up on the essentials for fresh cooking: lemons, garlic, parsley, cilantro, jalapenos, etc.Check it out!!!

Yelpers weren't wrong when they gave this place a solid 5-star rating. The place is not only huge, but the whole atmosphere in there is almost like they were giving away the shit for free. From the minute you grab your cart (there are a bunch of stuff outside too before you even enter) and where people are gathered outside trying to choose a watermelon (which I got by the way) and the strawberries and figs (which I ALSO got) to the myriad of other fruits (yup, got those too) to the vegetables .... it's just AWESOME!Here's a run down of some of the items:10 limes for 99 cents2lbs peaches for 99 cents2lbs nectarines for 99 cents15 cents/lb for watermelons2lbs apricots for 99 centsI got limes, peaches, nectarines, watermelon, apricots, Roma tomatoes, cantaloupe, figs, strawberries and the grand total? $11.22!!!! I had 4 bags of groceries. It was just amazing!! Too bad the place is kinda far for us but man, if you live in the area this is THE place to go.They also stock a hell of a lot of Mexican produce and even in the meat section there is marinated Mexican style meats for carne asada, etc etc. They have an impressive halal meat section too.Totally fabulous .... except for the smelly meat section, but even THAT I can handle!

I really need to go back here. There are so many delicious Middle Eastern flavoured yum-yums you don't really see anywhere else.Hard-to-find ethnic nom-noms aside, the prices here are amazing. It's like most smaller Super Markets, in that the mark-up is extremely low. Yet the overall quality is surprisingly high.Anyone looking for healthier cooking ingredients...they seem to sell grapeseed oil here in giant metal barrels I don't even think I could lift. Whether for cooking or something possibly more exciting, cheap buckets of lube you will find here. There seems to be an interesting cigarette section and CD in front, but it's right next to the check out, so it would not be easy to casually browse imported cigarettes CDS without blocking everyone's way out the door.

*Bows down*Great prices. Middle Eastern, Indian spices. "Bulk" nuts (gotta ask the attendant). Halal meats. Totally random and culturally diverse people. Yayness!! I came here while broke, and came out with more charges on my CC. I didn't care -- the food they have here -- awesome! I'm a big foodie, and the appeal on the shelves really drew me in. I started brainstorming some ideas of what and which to use in my baking and cooking, and practically *drooled* -- hell, I even took a good 15 minutes just walking down ONE aisle admiring the goodies...Oh, they got some pretty good prices for Hookahs and everything you'd need to set it up. I didn't get one,.. hey here I'm trying to stay afloat... but next time I'm nearby, I'll be sure to stop in!The cons: * It is SUPER crowded. -- maybe it's just the weekend too, but I don't know what's up with the Food4Less set up in the entrance. It's not that BIG enought to have that kind of entrance... so there was several carts-backed up. * As everyone had already mentioned, parking is an headache. It's weird, they got arrows going the wrong ways painted on the lots. And it's dirty -- with litter flying around. I commented on it, my husband, an Arab himself, said "it's because we're dirty..." Yeah, yeah... wait. Anyhow. It's totally worth the trip and the prices.I wish San Diego offered a big supermarket like this. Sure, there's Ranch 99 and places like that -- but where's the big Middle Eastern shops?
by Arisu L.
The produce is cheaper than Asian markets, thus all my family members go here and come out with large bags of varous fresh fruits and veggies.I've only gone here for produce though, the meats don't look too great to me and neither does anything else except for their freshly made Pita rounds that are located in their small bakery area. Only thing is, people come in droves and it's really packed inside ESPECIALLY on a Sunday. So when you're inside, you have to be aggressive with your cart! :P People will stand in your way, and they don't give a damn about moving aside for you. Charge!Parking is also pretty bad, even though the lot is HUGE.But I will sacrifice all that for cheap fresh fruit and veggies. Also, people tend to stand in line for the closest checkout registers thus even hindering people more because of the long lines and crowding.PEOPLE- JUST WALK TO THE END FOR MORE CASH REGISTERS! Wow! Who'da thunk?Anyway, come here! It'll be exciting. Or wait, don't come here, I might run you over with my cart trying to get to my tomatoes :P

The Bizarre BazaarRead the other reviews they are all spot on, this place is CRAZY.Here's just a few recent deals.Artichokes, 5 for a dollar, sure they are a little smaller than the $2 a piece one from Ralphs but they tasted great. I can afford to eat them againLemons, 10 for a dollar. I can afford fresh lemonade again.Baby spinach, $3.49 for a pillow sized bag. I sent a friend here and she called me from the store squealing on the phone in what sounded like a food orgasm.

great prices, fresh produce and meat, a win-win! Outside deceives people. Inside it's small, but full of goodies, fresh herbs and produce for prices before our deeply ridiculous grocery inflation you see in the big 3. Their american groceries and sodas are on par with other groceries stores though. The best deal is their produce and meats/Mediterranean specialties!
by Zak P.
Super King is a diamond in the rough. I love this place! Super cheap prices and tons of different foods. Bread, Meat and Produce or tops here. I wouldn't say you can buy everything you need here, but the majority of it you can... that is of course if you dont' die in the parking lot because its so packed all the time.

This is my first experience with a grocery store that seems to market to a middle eastern crowd. I saw a variety of products with 4-6 languages on the label and none of them were English. I think this is a good thing. The Produce is amazing. Think fresh and tasty. Now that I have said that - think so cheap that you can't believe it. I think they had 7 lemons for a $1. They had pineapples for $1.50 each. They had 5 bunches of green onions for a dollar. Chili peppers for $0.50 a lb. Some of the produce was so cheap I felt suspect. But, I brought a bunch home and it seems generally delicious. They don't seem to have any alcohol that I could find. They have a fantastic meat section and some nice seafood. Basically figure anything that they can get fresh they have an amazing price on. If its a typically name brand American product - its not cheap here. Think - fresh produce, fish, meat, milk, and eggs here. Think somewhere else for your beer, cereal, tomato sauce, etc. They have a huge variety of mixed nuts. They had more different kinds of tahini than I have ever seen. They have an amazing variety of olives, olive oil, and olive related products. Think 20 different kinds of red pepper paste. So, in conclusion - this should be a location on your mind for fresh produce but I definitely would not consider this for a one stop grocery store.

PROS: Great deals on produce meatCONS: 1) Parking lot is an accident waiting to happen2) Aisles are so packed with boxes that there are very narrow paths in between, so you can get stuck in the aisles if you have a cart3) Meat section they have things I would NEVER consider putting in my mouth (Beef Lips) among other things so I was unable to really look too much at the meat as I was getting grossed out on other items that were making me say eeeeewwww

Things you need to know about Super King.I usually don't shop anywhere else for groceries. Why should I, when i can spend $3.99 a pound for fillet mignon. They have some of the best prices on meat and produce you will find anywhere! Better than most of these so called farmers markets that rip you off nowadays!1 - If you go on a weekend, go early, they get very busy and parking is near impossible to find when they are.2 - If you go when they are busy understand that your "personal space bubble" may be violated. It gets very crowded and if you don't do well with crowds then go later at night. 3 - Check out the flyer online each week, they always have amazing deals on produce. 49 cents a pound for peaches and other items.4 - They do no carry pork products, I'm guessing it may have to do with the mostly middle eastern clientel they have.5 - The meat is amazing! High quality, always fresh and the staff are nice!!6 - Why throw your money away at Ralphs or Stater Bros or Albertsons or Vons. SuperKing has them all beat!!!

Super King is the place to be. All I can say is have a 2mg Xanax bar ready to roll when you step into this guantlet of goodness. Real Arabic pita bread(made in Santa Ana shhhhhh) 65 cents a pack! Great prices on tomatoes, garlic, onions, okra, squash. It's also your stop for hummus(usually canned), a nice selection of Middle Eastern olives, yogurts, milk. I do not shop the meat here which only proves this is a great spot for vegetarians and vegans to shop. I make great meals and the King is so easy on your wallet. In these times, take the drive to the Super King. It's worth it despite the anxiety attacks. BEWARE: THE STATEMENTS OF THE CROWDS HERE ARE NOT EXAGGERATED!! Don't say we didn't warn ya.

This is why I live in southern California. You can go to a Anaheim of all places, and walk into an unassuming building and it feels like you're in a different country. There are people of all ethnicity's, ages, cultures, pushing shopping carts every which way, because everyone likes a bargain. Amazing selection of produce, cheap spices, and pita galore. A mixture of Middle Eastern, Middle American, and Latin American food and products. The meat counter is usually a scene but I appreciate a market that still has a butcher department. Where else can you buy apricot paste and chicken hearts in one shopping trip.

I love Super King!! I came across this place 2 years ago and I am super satisfied with the quality of their produce! And not to mention..the prices are a killer!!! I have never been to a store and had a cart full of veggies and fruits and only spend 19.00!!! wow! Their meat department smells a little foul, but other than that I highly recommend this place! Just an fyi, it can get packed especially times right after work! Just bare with the traffic and you'll be good to go!!!

This place is more than a grocery store - it's a shopping experience! This was the second stop on my Afternoon Ghetto Anaheim Food Tour. I wish I had followed advice of other Yelpers and had a Xanax handy - and this was on a Wednesday. Parking wasn't too bad, so I can only guess this means it was a pretty calm day in the alternate universe of Super King. I grabbed a cart, my shopping list, and my courage and headed inside. The only thing I still had 90 seconds later was my cart. The courage had dissolved the second I walked inside, and my lovingly constructed shopping list disappeared somewhere around the time I was bagging up a 33 cent grapefruit as big as my head. It was madness inside - especially in the produce section - but what can you really expect when green onions are 12 bunches for $1?!?? I have never seen produce prices so low. I've also never had such a difficult time getting my produce, though...so there ya go. There were some interesting flatbreads, super fresh pitas, mysteriously cheap ($1.99 on sale!) Lofthouse sugar cookies, and great prices on dried fruit. Yum. I'm a supernaive, superwhite girl, and I probably would have liked my experience more if I had a clue what half the stuff was. Also, it is dirty, and people WILL shove you out of the way to get at the peaches. I highly recommend grabbing a small basket (do they have these? I hope so) so you don't have to deal with maneuvering a cart around. Good luck!!

I have found my discount market nirvana. They carry almost everything I cook with and need (and want), at excellent prices.I know this is a great market if I am still stoked on the place after shopping here during "rush hour". I came on a Friday evening. Yes, I know it's not the most ideal time to shop but I work 9-5, M-F so that's the only time I have free. Anyways, it was crowded! And people are in your way in almost every aisle! You just have to get "old country" style and push your way through while saying "excuse me". Once you get used to it (it took me about 1 minute), you realize what a fabulous place this is.Three types of eggplant! Round watermelons for 1.99; 3 lbs of white squash for 99 cents.....I could go on and on about the great deals I got on the fresh produce; I basically went through and picked out whatever I wanted and didn't have to worry about the total; The prices were that cheap! The selection was wonderful and most of the stuff was quite fresh. The bread section was better than any discount place I've seen; Fresh loafs of various ryes, whites and flatbreads. Fresh pita from a local bakery....in fact, I think all of their breads were from local bakeries.Laughing cow cheese, danish blue cheese, greek feta and olives all priced VERY low. Way cheaper than Trader Joe's. I bought 4 kinds of cheese that night.Organic wheat pasta and pasta imported from Italy....on sale for 89 cents a pound (a pack).A nice variety of arabic foods, including many varieties of kefirs and yogurts. Couscous and other grains in a variety of brands and sizes. And halal meats of course.I didn't get any meat here this time, but I'm going to try it next week. I filled up my cart and my total was under $45. Pretty remarkable considering all the fine cheeses, breads, olives, vegetables and pastas in there!

this is my first review :-)i finally made it here after reading the reviews on yelp about a month ago. i had been wanting to go on a weekday to avoid the crowds that everyone mentions, so i went on a friday around 1:30. after seeing how busy it was at that time, i cant even imagine what this place must be like on the weekend! i have patience for that sort of thing when i know i'm getting a really good deal; so it was worth the minor frustrations of grocery cart collisions and impassible aisles.i try not to eat much packaged food, so i really just came for the meat and produce. i got filet mignon and carne asada each for $3.99lb. the produce prices were great (i cringe every time i have to pay close to a dollar for a last minute onion or lemon at ralphs!) i was hoping for better prices on seafood, since i have yet to find any place with consistently low seafood prices (relative to what i'm used to paying in florida). all-in-all, i spent $40 and came out with probably a week's worth of food for 1-2 people. oh, and even though it was pretty crowded, i only waited in the check-out line for a couple of minutes. its a bit far from me to go on a regular basis, but i'll definitely come by again any time i'm in the area!

Super King and rightfully so.With grocery markets like Super King, I still wonder why people still flock to grocery market chain stores and bother with 'rewards programs' and the mini-key chain cards they give you. Your Highest Majesty of super markets in Southern California, Super King will have none of that nonsense!Price points within the Super King's kingdom are only comparable to those of (Insert Grocery Chain Name Here.)'s rewards program deals. And only those deals. You thought you had it made with 2 gallons of milk for $5 at Vons because you're rewards program member? $5 at Super King can get you 5 gallons of milk, and you don't even need to be a member of a program. Okay, I may be exaggerating a little but...you get the point. More realistically, an example of the deals you get along the lines of produce would be like this:(Insert a quantity more than 1) for 79 cents/99 cents/1.99.Best of all, it's not too good to be true. It's too good and too true! Produce and meat is fresh and the grocery boasts a big selection in cheese, dried fruits and nuts, spices and Mediterranean food. All hail Super King!
